Capstone is officially done

Luckily I finished my essay early on, so I didn’t have that to worry about. I liked the poster that I made, which I posted here when I made it. I also did a PSA to give insight into how important this issue is to our society. I attempted to make a website, but I couldn’t make it the way that I wanted it by the day of presentations. I was able to show the judge my PSA and my poster and I think he liked them. I also brought cookies for the judges which turned out to be a huge hit.

Proposal Presentation

My presentation is going to be very formal considering the topic is pretty important, but I do not want it to be boring so I am making sure to keep the visuals bold and colorful. I am simply going to stick to using the visuals and media that we have done in class to support my presentation. I should be entirely done with everything I need for my presentation by next week.

Capstone PSA

Last night I made my psa using windows movie maker. I wanted it to be as simple and straightforward as possible so I mostly used text and incorporated a few images to accompany the text. Basically it is just a short video clip made to provide insight into the current nursing shortage and why it is an issue. I also added a song to play over the video to give it a little more life.

PSA Intent

For my Capstone PSA I intend to emphasize the importance of degree certified nurses in the US. I want it to be serious and professional, but vibrant and colorful. My PSA is going to be simple and will consist of different clips and images that I am going to put together.

Capstone Visuals and Presentation

Aside from the visuals we are working on in imed, I am going to for sure draw out a blueprint to my end product and if I have the time and resources available I am going to create a 3D model as well. I will most likely design a brochure describing my end product as well.

Since I already know exactly what I am going to be doing, there are no ideas I have found online that I preferred. However, I did find these projects to be helpful and interesting:

This is just a rough draft of what my Capstone poster will be. I just want something simple and I want it to be more about the message with just an accompanying photo.
For my final poster I want to have an original image and I want a bit less text. I have not yet had time to actually draw out the image I have in mind, so for my rough draft I found a similar photo and wrote out the main idea that I want to present in the text.

When caring for patients it is essential that nurses are using the current best practice. To determine what this is nurses must be able to read research.

The adage “All that glitters is not gold” is also true in research. Not all research is of the same quality or of a high standard and therefore nurses should not simply take research at face value simply because it has been published.

My opinions on SOPA/PIPA:

As someone who spends a majority of their time online, I think that these laws are pointless. The problems that they are trying to solve were around before the internet, but the internet is simply making it more noticeable. The way that I see it is, as long as no one is making profit off of the work of someone else, there is no real problem. Of course people are losing money off of online pirates, but before the internet this problem still existed. The internet is just too vast anyways, and I personally think it is a wonderful thing as long as you aren’t going to abuse it.

For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
